Mango Tree has been a leading company in East Africa in pursuing a triple bottom-line: profits, people and
planet.
Profits
- We set profitability goals
and project and track sales systematically to ensure sustainability and create
capital for ongoing business improvements
- We distinguish ourselves
from Uganda's crowded non-profit sector by generating revenues from sales of
products & services, not from charitable grants
- We pay corporate taxes to
support Uganda's government and social programs
People
- Our products and services
are designed to serve Uganda's vulnerable populations including:
- Rural communities
- HIV positive individuals
- Orphans
- Women and children
- The disabled
- We invest in our staff
through on-going professional development opportunities
- Employees gain power and
knowledge thru our transparency with financial data, decision making and
planning
- We provide our employees
with a fair salary and benefits that include health and life insurance
- Mango Tree is majority
employee-owned, with almost all shares owned by Ugandan citizens and residents
- Mango Tree supports other
small enterprises, especially those that employ marginalized groups like the
disabled, HIV+ individuals and women, through subcontractor relationships
- 10% of Mango Tree's after
tax profits have sponsored poor, academically gifted students in Uganda
Planet
- Many of our products are
made from environmentally friendly materials that encourage recycling. Product
materials include:
- grain sacks
- bottle tops
- cardboard
- bicycle spokes and wire
- plastic containers and jerry cans.
